Pedro "Pete" Velasco Jr - or "Mister P," as he is called by many- is a two-time Olympian (1964 & 1968) and was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 1997.  He established Lokahi Volleyball Club in 1970, where he began to teach an exclusive system of play and specialized set of floor skills and ball-handling techniques whose combined purpose is to create an all-around volleyball player, able to execute all positions.

System of Play:

Commonly known among Lokahi's long-standing members as the "6-0."  It was designed to equalize court responsibility no matter the skill levels of individual team members.

Floor Skills:

  • Dives
  • Rolls

Calisthenics are the basics of Lokahi's floor skills and used to help players strengthen their core muscles.  The customary floor skills have been reconstructed by Mister P to increase a player's speed and improve player safety.  Each skill is broken down into a maximum of 8 steps that make them accessible to all competency levels.

Ball-Handling Skills:

  • Serving
  • Passing
  • Setting
  • Spiking
  • Blocking
  • Digging

Specific concepts, training, and techniques have been cultivated and handed down by Mister P to give players a better understanding of how each skill can be executed.  This foundation, in turn, helps players to recognize what parts of their game require correction in order for them to build better control in their overall performance.

    Mission Statement:

    1. To perpetuate the volleyball system of play and skill techniques developed by founder Pedro Velasco Jr., with emphasis on competition, sportsmanship and fair play, and
    2. To provide members opportunities and experiences that develop and strengthen leadership skills, self-esteem, discipline, teamwork, and other desirable life skills through the vehicle of competitive volleyball, and
    3. Through use of this system and techniques develop member's abilities so they may be able to broaden their horizons and gain opportunities and experiences that aid in their educational, career, cultural, and personal growth through exposure to and participation in national and international aspects of competitive volleyball
Lokahi welcomes all skill levels from ages 8 to adults.  We teach all who are willing to learn our system of play and skill techniques, in hopes that this will help members to expand their understanding of the game and their own capabilities.
